Ground Hog Day

1. What is ground hog day?

On February 2nd, according to tradition, the Groundhog emerges from hibernation; if it sees it shadow, it returns to its burrow for 6 weeks as a sunny day indicates a late spring, while a cloudy day indicates a early spring.

History: 
The idea of Groundhog Day comes from an ancient Christian celebration known as Candlemas Day, which marked the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.The Germans then expanded on this tradition, introducing the hedgehog to the mix. 

2. What is Punxsutawney Phil's prediction? 

He predicted that it will be a longer wait, as he did see his shadow. Spring will officially begin on March 20th. The Americans have to wait longer.

3. What is Wiarton Willie's prediction? 

When he came out of his hole, he didn't see his shadow, so he predicted a early spring this year for the Canadians.
